Set against the backdrop of the Great Western Tiers, Deloraine is a pleasant town on the banks of the Meander River in north-eastern Tasmania. The town reflects its early history in its many colonial buildings while the surrounding area is used for mixed farming and dairying.
It is also the gateway to the Mole Creek Karst National Park which has spectacular underground limestone caves, stalactite and stalagmite formations and columns, subterranean streams, glow worm displays and cathedral caverns. The best known of these are King Solomon's and Marakoopa show caves.
Each Easter, Deloraine holds a Grand national Steeplechase. In November there is the popular Tasmanian Craft Fair. Deloraine and the Tasmanian Trout Fishing Competition.
Deloraine is about 30 minutes from Launceston or Devonport by car.
